Sunset Memorial Park

Update: See the cemetery again in the summer of 2018.

There are so many cemeteries in St. Louis, and each one has its story. Located down along the major roads heading out of the city, such as Gravois in this case, or Bellefontaine or St. Charles Rock Roads to the north, many of these cemeteries began out in the country, and were later swallowed by the suburbs.

Sunset Memorial Park has some interesting buildings, including this very austere, almost Norman tower on the edge of the cemetery by Gravois. Its a newer cemetery, so there aren’t as many mausolea, but there are a couple, such as this one below.

    Wow!
I don’t know stone, but is that marble? It’s hardly a grave site – more like a compound.
Ahh – that’s where THE Busches are buried!

Not sure, it’s a unique stone. Is it igneous or metamorphic? Not even sure about that.

I think it is Great for people to have a nice place like these for there last place on this Earth. And if you work hard all your Life you can be there. It is what you plan for early on. As for my Love One we will be together just like this and our Scarlett as well. Good Luck in what you want. And as for the Busch Family, I am Proud of all they did and what they did for other people in there life time. Like I said GOOD LUCK.

It is a truly beautiful place. They keep it really clean, plants trimmed, and I find it very relaxing to drive through.

Quite a few people who were instrumental in the development of South St Louis City and County are buried at Sunset, the first non-sectarian cemetery platted on the Gravois Road. In addition to the present generations of the Busch Family, scores of realtors, educators, auto dealers, developers, and entrepreneurs rest in this beautifully kept cemetery.

Oh, interesting! I also need to fix these incredibly crooked pictures.
