The Alley Behind the New Cathedral

I was alerted by friends and readers of this website of a fascinating lacuna from the history of the New Cathedral and its relationship to the Central West End.  Several decades ago, the Archdiocese bought approximately twenty feet of the backyards of all of its neighbors on Maryland Avenue, and reimbursed the owners for the construction of new garages.  The Archdiocese had plans for expansion, and wanted more room.  Fast forward to the present day, and the Archdiocese had abandoned its plans, and now offers to sell the land back to the previous owners.  As you can see, some owners have taken the Archdiocese up on its offer, while others have yet to.  So what is left is an interesting zig-zag of garages and asphalt.
