The Beauty of Dutchtown Series continues with No. 53 here. I revisited this block in December of 2022.
This next stretch of Meramec is interesting; all of the houses are of uniform age, without a single outlier. I suspect they were developed in one single tract.
Consulting Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps, the answer becomes obvious; there was a giant wood frame country house on the block, similar to yesterday that was obviously torn down sometime in the early Twentieth Century when land values and density needs warranted the demolition of the lower density home.
These houses are sort of the quintessential Dutchtown house from the 1910s and 20s.
I actually photographed that last house on the right, which sits on the corner with Nebraska Avenue, in this post from October of 2019.
