The End for the Historic Apartments, Near North Riverfront

Update: The site is now a vacant lot.

Many of us had always held out hope for this beautiful series of buildings on Branch Avenue, just on the other side of the interstate from Old North and Hyde Park.

But it was not to be, and they are now being demolished, and pretty soon there’ll be just another vacant lot that will probably sit empty for decades.

Rendered largely worthless by the interstate, I suppose this was the only logical conclusion to these buildings’ history.

Seems like this would be a good candidate for redevelopment to a commercial or industrial use.

I drive by these every day. I love the buildings. I was pretty sad to see the tear down process start.

Saturday, 4/7/18, a friend and I drove on Broadway from downtown, heading to Riverview Drive, to see the two homes my grandfather Frank Thompson built before I was born; I am 84 1/2 years old, and he built them before I was born. I was devastated as we drove north. I haven’t seen it in many, many years, but my grandfathers two homes are in excellent condition. 9771 Riverview Dr.Thank you for the work you do, and even the sad pictures. As a child, I spent much time in that area and even went to Baden grade school for awhile.

Oh, I think I know those houses! I see them when I’m up that way. They’re very beautiful.
