I saw a great presentation last night about efforts to convert the old Illinois Terminal Railroad trestle through the Near North Side into a bike trail and garden. You can read about it here, and take a look at the massive, grand and sturdy piece of engineering that this trestle is. It’s over-engineered, and luckily so. They don’t build it like this anymore, do they?
Actually, Chris, this bridge was for the old Illinois Terminal Railroad, not Illinois Central.
Oops, thanks for the head’s up!
