Weird and Wonderful Tower Grove South: Potomac Street Between Bent and Oak Hill Avenues

Wait a minute, I thought as I turned onto Potomac Street.

I know I’ve been here before, but not quite exacty.

I figured it out. This street is a very similar to the 5600 block of Labadie in Wells-Goodfellow, but it is just not abandoned and half-demolished.

It is a textbook example of how the fortunes of similar buildings can vary so widely, depending only on which half of the city they end up.

End up in North City, and bank loans for rehabbing and maintenance are next to impossible to get, but if the building ends up in highly desirable Tower Grove South, loans and financing is easy to get.

Down at the end of the block are two L-shaped apartment buildings.

Many, many years ago, when I first moved to St. Louis, I live in one of the flats in the 5th picture down.
