Winona Avenue, West of Kingshighway

I’ve become a little more interested in the streets just to the west of Kingshighway, where the blocks start to the west with houses, and then become more dense as they get closer to the major north-south thoroughfare.

There’s sort of the standard houses you would expect, as well as your usual two-family flats.

And then there are four-family apartment buildings, which are a bit newer, dating from the 1930s and 40s.

But then we get closer to Kingshighway, and there are much larger apartment buildings, some of which are abandoned. Many of the buildings are not doing very well and are starting to look rundown.

This is Lawn Avenue, which sort of starts and stops just west of Kingshighway for miles up and down the commercial corridor.

If it’s of any solace, the rehab of the massive apartment building on the corner of Chippewa and Kingshighway is coming along nicely. The construction crew is currently in the process of replacing the windows, and they recently completed the re-pointing of the brick and the utility work.

You should definitely check out the area bound by Kingshighway, Chippewa, Macklind, and Oleatha. There aren’t many posts dedicated to Northampton on your blog, and I think the situation needs to be remedied LOL.
