Abandoned Farmstead, Far North County

Update: See these farms buildings in April of 2019.

We came across this house and barn in far north St. Louis County, almost to the Missouri River.

Who lived here, and why did no one move in after the last inhabitants left?

Perhaps the house was in too deteriorated state that renovation seems prohibitively expensive.

The barn is still in relatively good shape, though it could stand to receive a new coat of paint.

I don't know the story of this place, but it has been sitting like this for many, many years.

Hi, I’m an architecture student. I happen to be studying abandoned barns in St. Louis region. Can you tell me a more detailed location of this farmstead?

More or less at the intersection of Vaile Avenue and Old Jamestown Road; it’s right where Jamestowwn Road makes a dog leg.

This is at the very end of Vaile Rd., off of New Halls Ferry. The house is NOT lived in but someone still owns the property and keeps the grounds up. There was a ederly man out back weed eating today when I took pictures of it.

According to the STL County Assessor’s page, the house was built in 1850 and all of the other buildings were erected in 1930.
All structures are listed as “Unsound,” save for the garage, which is shown as “Poor.”
Pretty cheap taxes for 4.24 acres – hovering at just less than $600…
