Caroline Street Between South Ewing and Ohio Avenues, Compton Hill

A couple of weeks ago I covered the historic survivors of the Compton Hill neighborhood on the blocks just to the west of South Jefferson Avenue, including Caroline Street.

I found a nice collection of those survivors along Caroline Street to the west of Ohio Avenue, with a predominance of Italianate style houses.

In other words, these blocks have some really old houses on them. The house on the right below was probably a twin of the home on the left below, but was altered at some point.

It would be interesting to know if there was any documentation of the neighborhood before the demolitions began.

There doesn’t seem to be much on Compton and Dry, so they must have been built shortly after its publication in 1876.
