Originally the country estate of Robert Carr, Carrswold is one of several private streets created in the 1920’s in Clayton just west of the St. Louis Boundary and Big Bend Road. Heavily Tudor Revival in style, the mansions of the private subdivision are laid out on large lots, with sweeping boulevards, really parks in their own right, that separate houses from each other. It is a truly stunning neighborhood, adorned with a multitude of different species of mature shade trees.
I used to ride my bike there a lot when we lived in Richmond Heights. Truly a beautiful place and one of my favorites. That whole area on both sides of Wydown from Hanley to Big Bend is just fantastic. If I made about 20 times as much money I’d live there.
Sigh – another of those locations where J.P. Morgan’s famous line certainly applies: “”If you have to ask the price, you can’t afford it.”
Photos 5 and 6 appear to be from West Brentmoor, not Carrswold.
If you turn right from the entrance, the 2nd and 3rd houses on your right are in fact in Carrswold in photograph 6. A cursory search of the house in photo 5 does not immediately locate it, but its JPG number puts in amidst the photos I took in Carrswold.
Photo 5 is 39 Brentmoor and photo 6 is 31 Brentmoor.
