Christ’s Southern Mission Baptist Church, Former Eden Immanuel Evangelisch Church

Another example of a congregation that was founded in the early Twentieth Century with the merging of two older churches in the West End, Eden Immanuel started in 1919 and closed in 1971.

It’s a very beautiful church, with an English feeling to the Gothic Revival, and it’s a very interesting expression of the style.

While it was very common in early St. Louis churches, having the sanctuary on the second floor fell out of favor later in the Nineteenth Century. But this church returns to that, perhaps due to its location on a corner of busy Page Boulevard.
