Due to the modern commercial environment, and lower density, we’re probably never going to need all of the corner storefronts in the city. They make great houses though, with big, light filled windows. And things like lawyers’ offices are good for these spots. But where the corner bar or grocery store remains, it reminds us why we live in a city where we can walk down the street and meet our neighbors for dinner or just to bump into them while shopping.
Thanks for the store focus. Mt church, St. Trinity Lutheran (Carondelet) was recently given an a corner store built in 1893. It needs a lot of work. We would like to preserve it, but not sure if we can afford to. It’s at the corner of Vermont and Koeln at 7428 Vermont. The church building itself is pretty historic having being built in 1872.
