They seem to be demolishing one of the landmark buildings in the Wellston Loop, on the County side of the strip. The sign high up on the tower says Plumbing Supply Wholesale Distributors, but I don’t think that’s the original tenant. Anyone remember what this building was?

I think it was originally a Central Hardware location.
That is definitely what it was, Central Hardware. I remember going there often.
Look at Katz drug store, Wellstone ( images).https://www.google.com/search?q=katz+drug+store+wellston&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS1142US1142&oq=katz+drug+store+wellston&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOTIKCAEQABiABBiiBDIKCAIQABiABBiiBDIHCAMQABjvBTIKCAQQABiABBiiBNIBCzExMTI0MmowajE1qAIIsAIB8QUpwGRfhTm39g&sourceid=chrome&source=chrome.rb&ie=UTF-8
This may have been a Sears branch . Wellston was a truly vital, enjoyable shopping destination . Every kind of retail option was along that strip . Independent merchants . Poverty is a cancer if not understood and addressed . It is not easily coordinated in close proximity to working class / middle income neighborhoods.
Sears was on N Kingshighway, but never in Wellston.
Sears is correct. There was a JC Penny store just east on what- was-then Easton Avenue. That area was a shopping destination.
You are right about JC Penney, but wrong about Sears. That building was Central Hardware. I remember that area well, and that was definitely Central Hardware.
Thanks everyone for the feedback! Sears did have those towers as can be seen in the N Kingshighway and S Grand locations.
