Enclaves of St. Louis #5: River Bluff Place

I learned about this short, one block long street a couple of years ago just east of South Broadway a couple of years ago from some residents.

Taking its name from Chouteau’s Bluff, which rises just north of Carondelet and then continues for over a mile or so, there are dramatic views of the Mississippi River from some of the houses along this short street.

Traditionally there were some very large lots along here, so it’s a bit of an anomaly that there was a street of smaller houses platted here.

Love your writing, insights and analysis, but I question you calling this an “anomaly.” Isn’t it the way of the world that often large lots are later subdivided? Maybe that happened here? But thanks for posting! Love the yellow brick house with arches! I wondered if the newer house was a tear-down.
