Update: See the building further demolished here.
I know I’m supposed to be mad the final historic public housing tower in St. Louis is being demolished, but I’m not. Not everything is worthy of preservation–just the buildings that contribute to the collective beauty of St. Louis. This bland, ugly pile of peach colored bricks provided nothing to the City of St. Louis; it is an anomaly, neither embracing St. Louis’s collective history, nor moving it forward in a new direction. I’m glad this mistake, whose builders and their ideologues caused so much damage to the city, is finally being erased. Just because it’s old doesn’t make it aesthetically pleasing.
Update: The building is now completely demolished.
These Bldg’s were a mistake when they were built, and I’m glad there headed for the landfill.
How can you say that those buildings were a mistake when you and others who has so many negative remarks about Blumeyer has never lived there! It was a great community especially back from the 1970s -1990s
If it was so wonderful, why is it being torn down? I’m criticizing government policy that doesn’t listen to former and current residents who may have wanted to stay.
How is building a multi-million dollar structure using taxpayers’ money that gets torn down in one generation a wise and fiscally responsible decision?
Any idea what, if anything, will be put in it’s place?
I presume more low-rise affordable housing.
It’s just green space now! Empty and void!
Eric, yes, any long-term plans for the site have not materialized yet.
