Constructed in 1928 as the Bethany Evangelisch Lutheran Church, this building is now occupied by the Tabernacle of Life Church. It is a great example of English Gothic Revival architecture. It was absolutely glowing in the early morning light the Saturday I photographed it. See this section of Natural Bridge Avenue here.
My dad, George J. Mueller, was pastor of Bethany from about 1962-1971. After he retired the church struggled for a short while then closed. It was abandoned several times for varying periods of time. I’m so very happy that it is now being used. Years ago I drove for Grayline Sightseeing in St. Louis and I remember churches that had been turned into truck garages and other uses. Nothing wrong with that but I’m happy a church is still using this building for worship. Thanks for this article
