Update: The Fountain Park neighborhood was severely damaged by the tornado in the afternoon of May 16, 2025.
I first looked at Fountain Park way back in December of 2008, and its appearance has changed little. What is interesting is that the fountain in the middle was simplified at some point, as can be seen in comparing the above and below photos.

Update: Sadly, the building below was destroyed by the tornado.
The really fantastic news is that the beloved commercial building on the northeast side of the oval has been stabilized! I am intrigued with what is going on, as the building is still owned by the same slumlord, but a review of Missouri court documents reveal that the owner and the City of St. Louis have been involved in some sort of legal battle. I am not sure what is going on, but it most likely is related to the condition of the building, and must have resulted in the securing of the property.

Fountain Park was originally laid out as Aubert Place by either a surveyor whose name pops up a lot named Salomon in the 1850s or by Julius Pitzman in 1867.

I will be back at some point when the leaves are off the trees. The area is chopped up by closed streets. The house below is at the northeast corner of Fountain and Euclid, and we’ll head north again on the latter.
