Crossing over Osceola Street, we’re immediately struck by the ages of the houses that we see.

That’s because this is the Jones and Miltenberger Subdivision laid out in March 28, 1876. You might recognize the Eugene Miltenberger name if you follow my Lemp content; he along with two others owned and subdivided the land where the Lemp Brewery now stands.

There are still houses built in the early Twentieth Century that match most of the other houses in the area.

But then there’s a Second Empire house!

This block developed over the course of half a century.

More Second Empire houses, though from the color of the brick they are late in the style.

Then there are these two guys, which are an interesting development in residential architecture in South St. Louis. They’re starting to get much wider, moving towards more modern domestic architecture.
