Homer G. Phillips Grave, St. Peter’s Cemetery

I was recently giving a talk about the importance of African American lawyer and civil rights activist Homer G. Phillips, and it dawned on me that I didn’t know where he was buried. I’ve looked at the hospital that he was so instrumental in getting built before.

I turns out he’s buried with his wife, a talented artist herself, in St. Peter’s Cemetery off Lucas and Hunt Road. It’s easy to find, on the north edge of the grounds by the fence separating the cemetery from the golf course.

I also drove by the mass grave of those removed from Washington Park Cemetery, which is located in the back northwest corner of St. Peter’s if you’re ever looking for it. The indices for those graves that were disinterred are located at this City of St. Louis link.
