Heading south of Keokuk Street, we see a wider range of styles of architecture. I looked at this block back in October of 2019 and August of 2020.
We also see a four-family that looks just like one in Fox Park and also up in the Greater Ville.
There are also two Second Empire houses, one with its roof intact…
…and the other with it removed, I suspect.
The little Modernist law office, which I looked at way back in what I think was my first post for Dutchtown, is still standing.
Some bad news: the former convent for St. Thomas Aquin is boarded up and abandoned.
That’s an interesting block. Looks like the other Second Empire house you mention never had a mansard roof though, according to the Sanborn map; someone just reimagined the 3rd floor facade along the way.

I’ve always had an eye out on that convent home. It looks like a Midtown mansion in miniature, way more pretentious than anything else in the neighborhood. I sure hope it is saved.
The convent is amazing. I’m worried for its future.
I dont believe I have ever seen that former convent…it is a wonder!
