Princeton, Illinois

The weather was weird in Princeton when we came through, but it is a really beautiful town, with a long history going back before the Civil War. It has two “downtowns,” one down by the county courthouse, and the other up by the rail depot. Another commercial strip has developed near Interstate 80.

I believe this is a memorial to Union soldiers in the Civil War.

There are some nice Neoclassical and Greek Revival buildings in Princeton, such as this former church below, which is now an arts center. I would call it Greek Revival in massing, but it uses the Roman Tuscan order in the front columns.

And of course, there are some amazing houses, including these below.
