Riverview Boulevard, West Side, Walnut Park West

Riverview Boulevard has been known by many names over the years: Tracy Road or Avenue until 1907, Kingshighway Northwest until 1925 and Partridge Avenue at some point. Regardless, it forms the southeast boundary of Walnut Park West and has been a major artery since the Nineteenth Century, traveling to the northeast where it intersects with West Florissant Avenue and Halls Ferry Road.

I wonder if Tracy Road/Avenue was named after John H. Tracy, who owned a lavish mansion on Nicholson Place in Lafayette Square.

As is so often the case in St. Louis City, the main streets are often subjected to more demolition for parking lots and commercial properties that are in turn torn down.

There are some notable exceptions, such as the house below, but Riverview Boulevard in Walnut Park West suffers from many of the same maladies that even major thoroughfares in affluent communities endure.

There are many nice buildings such as this one, but it’s abandoned.

As is typical, more autocentric buildings sprouted up mid-Twentieth Century.

But further up, there are some many pedestrian oriented business fronts, as well.

This building below is now actually at least partially filled by a pharmacy.
