Russell Boulevard Between California and Ohio Avenues

I’ve looked at the stunning block of Russell Boulevard numerous times over the years since it’s one of my favorite stretches of houses in the city. Following the street naming convention of “Indian tribes,” this section was originally known as Pontiac Street.

One time was back in March of 2015 when I focused on the Second Empire rowhouses just east of California.

The other time was in November of 2017, when I looked at the north side of the street in two parts, which you can see here and here.

This time I’m focusing on the south side of the street, which is an interesting, eclectic stylistic mix of houses.

As well as some more obvious Italianate homes.

And here’s a Second Empire townhouse.

But we also get a Italianate/Second Empire hybrid duplex, as well.

But then, what the heck are these? There are Second Empire elements, but look at those towers and archways and fenestration.

And what is this???
