Secor, Woodford County, Illinois

The giant grain elevator in Secor had long attracted my attention on my drive west of El Paso on U.S. Highway 24 on my way to Eureka, Illinois, but this time I decided to go visit and take a look…

Like many small towns, the elevator dominates the skyline, but there is still at least one restaurant holding on.

There is a quiet downtown area.

There is one beautifully restored house, seen below.

Past glory is seen in this proud Italianate house, which seems to be abandoned.

That 2 story house is not abandoned.
It was my childhood home and had to be sold after my grandparents passed. It was sold in 2008 and unfortunately, the current owners have let repairs go. My grandparents added the porch, garage, patio and balcony & took great pride in their home. They’re rolling over in their graves at the state of it these days.
