
We last looked at the controlled demolition of the unstable malt kilns at the Lemp Brewery back in December of 2023.

As I’ve been arguing for a while now, the owner’s decision to stabilize the building in this way is the best course of action, and I fully support it. Remember, this was originally a three story building built in the mid-1870s that then received an addition three-four floors (depending on how you count them) in the late 1880s.

Just looks at how that since steel column is holding up the entire weight of the inner wall separating the central access tower from the former western kiln.

Update: The malt kiln suffered another collapse in the portion that was marked for demolition in the winter of 2025 when deconstruction was halted due to the weather. The photos below are from the day after.
