St. Augustine’s in the Snow, Mid February 2018

Who knows what they’re up to now, on the deserted streets around the old St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church. It sort of reminds me of Germany, with the snow swirling around the Gothic spires of the church. Such a waste.

Updates Up North

More of the front portal of St. Augustine’s church has fallen down, dashed on the steps. Or possibly, the monogram roundel has been stolen, as I do not see its rubble below. See this earlier post (second photo) to understand what is now missing. And meanwhile, the absurdity of the Northside TIF continues, as the…

Continued Destruction, St. Augustine’s

More destruction since I documented the ladders and ropes hanging from the roof of St. Augustine. More sad damage appears on the front; probably due to falling masonry(?) or something, some of the flamboyant Gothic details above the main portal have fallen and smashed below on the steps. Or did it? There doesn’t seem to…

Desecration

The neighborhood that once filled the pews of St. Augustine is now gone, and the old church sits alone, vulnerable. I have been truly shocked by how large and bushy the volunteer trees have become. It is only late April and the undergrowth is huge. Vines have now crept around the flamboyant Gothic elements of…

New Curbs for Christmas, 2016

So, in one of the first times I have been rendered speechless, Lismore Avenue has just received two new curbs cuts. Mind you, there is no one living on this block, and there is little reason why anyone would walk by this way. The cars in the background are employees’ of the shady junkyard across…

St. Augustine, Late August 2016

The graffiti that had marred the front facade of St. Augustine’s in the aftermath of the apprehension of a drug dealer/violent felon/tagger has already been removed. Which strikes me as very curious, as there’s lots of graffiti in this city, and it seems random for this to be removed. The volunteer trees are getting to…

Disgraceful Vandalism at St. Augustine’s

What the scrappers haven’t gotten (see the ladder lying on the roof of the church, and the rope they were using to climb up and steal the copper is still hanging there), the hipster graffiti “artists” have desecrated. Want to know the definition of “privilege,” that term that gets bandied about on the news a…
