Tamm Avenue Between Clayton and Wade Avenues

Richard W. Lemen, View of a little girl walking eastward down south side of the 6300 block of Victoria Avenue from Tamm Avenue in the Dogtown neighborhood. The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A & P) that once operated on the 1200 block of Tamm Avenue is in view. The building on the right, 1208 Tamm, has been home to Seamus McDaniel’s restaurant since 1985. July 13, 1931. Passing by the intersection of Tamm and Clayton Avenues, we are now come upon Victoria Avenue. There was another mine just to the east of here.

The Hiram Roberts Mine had a 75-foot shaft into the earth in order to reach clay deposits in 1911; houses now cover the site.

For whatever reason, there is still some vacant land at the southeast corner of West Park Avenue and Tamm.

The houses are a wide mix of different styles and building dates.

This apartment building looks to be from the late 1970s or early 80s.

Looking west on Nashville Avenue in this historic photo, we can also see how the land was being filled in during the first half of the Twentieth Century on what was the rugged terrain.

We also then pass by the campus of St. James the Greater before we reach Wade Avenue.
