I had learned, shortly after the implosion demolition of the refrigeration plant at Armour Meat Packing Plant in 2016, that the famous De La Vergne Engine had survived the collapse of the building, and its parts had been relocated to the American Farm Heritage Museum in Greenville, Illinois. As of the summer of 2020, the engine has not been reassembled, and lies in pieces in the outlawn of the museum.
I really wish they would get it indoors out of the weather…
Also hope they don’t intend to completely re-paint it and make it ‘too pretty’. It had just the right amount of patina.
Awesome Job guys. Thanks for saving that magnificent engine. I tried to save a Frick corliss compressor at the Matt Brewery in NY back in 2012 and they scrapped it . It was absolutely beautiful and broke my heart to see it destroyed after surving 100 years. At least you got a fabulous one.
The Armour engine is in the process of being put back together at the American Farm Heritage Museum! (3-4-2024)
