There is a second Catholic church in Breese, St. Augustine’s, which is on the south side of town and surely was opened as the population surged.

Constructed in a Lombard Romanesque Revival style, it again like many churches in the region, reminds me of the houses of worship I’ve seen in Milan, Italy.

This church was founded in 1912.

The school opened the next year.

Across town, closer to the main shopping street is the St. John’s Church of Christ.

But looking closely at a dedication stone over the front door we see that it opened as St. Johannes Evangelical Church, meaning that it was a branch of the official Protestant church in Germany in 1871. I would argue that it is largely Lutheran.

There is a house to the north which I suspect was originally the pastor’s home.

It is a Hallkirche in design, just like St. Dominic’s. To the east is the school building.
