North Up Blair Avenue, Old North, May 2026, Part One

It’s been awhile since I’ve gone north up Blair Avenue, so I thought I would take a look to see what’s been happening since the last time, which was March of 2024. It’s been my way of checking up on the inner ring neighborhoods of the Northside, and it is always interesting. I started further south than normal, in southern Old North at Blair’s intersection with North Florissant Avenue.

While there are plenty of houses that have been rehabbed, there are many more that are waiting to be revitalized. The shell of St. Liborius can be seen off in the distance.

I’ve always seen this church, which obviously is from the late Twentieth Century, but I don’t think I’ve ever photographed it before.

Going north towards North Market, the density increases, and less houses are vacant.

Below is looking west down Monroe Street.

I’ve always liked the house below, clearly built long before the streets were graded to their present level.

Up in the distance is North Market Street, where we will continue on tomorrow.
