Wells-Goodfellow #8

The wide variety of housing stock in Wells-Goodfellow continued to interest me as I went around the neighborhood.

As I mentioned yesterday, I find the rural relics of this neighborhood of particular interest.

Finally, below, a “tract house,” interestingly similar to a row of the same design in Tower Grove East just down the street from my home, breaks with the wood frame houses on the street.

But then I spotted it, right next to a larger neighbor.

This little cottage is old, I can tell. Why was it built so long ago, and why has it survived? Was it an old farmhouse, way out on the hills west of St. Louis’s central core?

People were still building here well into the 1950s, as this apartment building below attests.

These three houses below again look just like houses in my own neighborhood on Arsenal.
