North Side Lindell Boulevard, Revisited

Update: I revisited this stretch of Lindell Boulevard in August of 2022 and in October of 2023 (last photo). I love the mighty row of apartment buildings on Lindell in between Taylor and Euclid. They’re mostly from the early Twentieth Century, but there’s a couple of more recent ones as well. Update: The northeast corner…

Lindell Boulevard, Heading West

I never really get a chance to look at the houses on Lindell west of Kingshighway. They’re an interesting mix of housing styles, not particularly always my favorite, but still a noteworthy achievement of organic development on the largest lots in the city. Recent additions have been more successful than others.

Saint Louis University

The SLU campus has a wide variety of buildings, including this old Jesuit church, which is now the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art. Nearby was an interesting, almost Modernist grade school. I really like the severe features of this depiction of Christ, on the front facade. There’s something weird about the windows on the large…

Yes, You Can Force CVS to Do What You Want

Update: The AAA Club building was preserved in the final design and built CVS Pharmacy built on the site. I have been following the proposed demolition of the AAA Club on Lindell for a while now, but Vanishing St. Louis says it best here. While honestly, it’s not the most urban building in the world,…

The Bel-Air Hotel on Lindell Blvd

To be honest, I had always considered the Best-Western on Lindell in the Central West End to be a total dump. Little did I understand that the building had merely suffered under decades of poor maintenance and decor that masked the underlying beauty of the hotel.

An Awesome House on Lindell

I came across this house on Lindell; it is truly exceptional, because it doesn’t look like a house in St. Louis. It looks like it belongs in Boston or New York, but I am glad it is here regardless.

Lindell Blvd, Central West End

Update: I went back and looked at this stretch of Lindell in April of 2014. I can only imagine that at one time, all of Lindell was lined with huge mansions. But I’m not complaining that many of them are gone; in many instances they were replaced with beautiful turn of the century apartment buildings…

San Luis Apartments

Update: Looking back now as of January of 2021, I quite frankly don’t know why I was so worked up about the demolition of the San Luis. It really was not an attractive building-it was actually quite mediocre and dated-so I don’t blame the Archdiocese for tearing it down in the summer of 2009. In…
