Utah Street Between Missouri and Wisconsin Avenues, North Side

Wow, things sure have been changing along Utah Street in Benton Park! The corner storefront above, which had been baby blue for a long time, has been rehabbed. Amazingly, the ghost sign was preserved when the presumably latex paint was removed. Great job!

And this little duplex, when I wasn’t paying attention, was rehabbed a couple of years ago. I suspect it’s now a single family home since the door on the right doesn’t have a doorknob!

But this duplex below is still intact, and I always enjoy these houses, just because the proportions are just so pure. I think they work better as 1.5 stories than as a full two.

Their neighbor sure is close, too.

This is a very severe interpretation of the Italianate style below.

And of course, I love the Second Empire buildings anchoring the corners.
