Crossing over MLK, I headed to one of the more interesting streets in Wells-Goodfellow, the 5600 block of Labadie.

After passing by the western end of the block, which is still somewhat inhabited, we get to those four-family apartment buildings, which have always fascinated me, but even more so now that I recently discovered a similar street in Tower Grove South this spring.

I’ve looked at this row of buildings in March of 2017, the winter of 2018, the spring of 2021 and then in January of 2023 (last four photos).

Down at the bottom of the hill is this now-burned-out hulk of a little house. I do not know what happened to it.

But there are still signs of hope, as this little church holds on. When we initially went by, a funeral was taking place.

Didn’t know much about that area. 1969 We moved to St.Louis to 4908 Labade St. Louis Mo. There was a huge orphanage across the street, fenced in for a block..,
We lived there one school yr until our home was ready in Webster Groves MO.
I understand orphanage was demolished, replaced with public school system.
Ah yes, that was the Christian Orphans Home across the street from you. And it is now a school of some sort. The public schools stadium was just across Kingshighway–do you remember it?
