Update: I went back to this block in May of 2022. Destroyed by fire on October 22, 2025.
I wrote an article recently about how Midtown used to be a thriving residential area before the theaters and parking lots showed up. This house is fascinating; it is old. It was probably one of the first houses out this way after the Civil War.

Thanks Chris. Great place. Could you talk a bit about how you know the house is that old?
Geo St. Louis lists the (usually) accurate date of construction. You must always balance what the site says with the style of architecture of the building, any additions (which mess up the date listed), and whether it’s logical that anything had yet been built in that area of the city at the date.
Just an FYI, I’m not asking you to do work here.
Using the URI link to you St Louis Magazine article, it as of 17Sep25, returns a 404 page not found error. Also, the Wayback Machine at Archive.org did not archive it.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve emailed them about the broken link.
