Built in the early 20th Century and now listed on the National Register, the Illinois Traction Depot in Mackinaw provided service between Peoria, Danville and St. Louis. To the south is the abandoned depot at the hamlet of Union.

The McKinley Bridge originally carried the railroad to St. Louis’s downtown.

I like the streamlined design of the station, as well as the prominent black holes where the electrical lines no doubt attached to the station.

Now a tea room, the station provides a welcome landmark on the north side of the small town.

I drive by this all the time!! Love it!
Chris – love your info on these small towns. Although – it makes me spend a lot of time on Google satellite and Bing Birdseye! I also discovered a very interesting website run by fans of the Illinois Traction System!
Good heavens, thanks so much for posting this! It is gonna aid me when I am thinking about going to Landmark Cinemas in Peoria! I am from Rochester, NY so I am not familiar with Peoria. Next time I see my family will be so much better! Super Awe Inspiring!
